Puffer coats & pink walls

Lately I’ve been living in my puffer coat. It’s not only super warm but also looks cozy AF. Some people will never understand this style and throw questions at me like: ‘why are you wearing your bed cover’, or ‘jacket where are you taking the girl?’. Something with Dutch people and fasjun.

But seriously, it’s a lifesaver during wintertime. I paired it up with an adidas performance track pants and my New Balance runners. This must be the most comfortable outfit ever if you ask me :)

And last but not least: there’s a final pair I didn’t showed yet.. the last pair of 2016, scroll through to find out more!

Wishing you all a happy New Year and hope to see ya ass again in 2017 :)! xx

Museum Voorlinden

A few weeks ago I was finally able to visit Museum Voorlinden, a contemporary art museum in Wassenaar. Officially opened in September 2016, showcasing Joop van Caldenborgh’s private collection. Also known as the Caldic Collection, the biggest private art collection of The Netherlands.

The Caldic Collection involves pieces collected since the early seventies, and consists of paintings, sculptures, collages and photography works from the 20th century. Think of names like Ai WeiWei, Damien Hirst, James Turrell (Skyspace), Richard Serra (Open Ended) and Ron Mueck (Couple under an umbrella). Next to the continiously collection, they also host temporarily exhibitions. The time I visited the museum brought an ode to artist Ellsworth Kelly, known for his large format paintings in clear shape and colours. The first solo exhibition of the American artist in The Netherlands since 1979. (It’s still on display until January 8 if you like to experience).

In addition to works of famous artists, the museum also impresses with its architecture. Designed by Dirk Jan Postel from Kraaijvanger, the building exists of two layers (upper and underground part). Postel used lots of glass in combination with dune sand coloured stones to decorate the walls. The building perfectly blends in with its nature surroundings. The roof is made of transparent glass, with additional indirect LED lighting incorporated into its construction. By this way the museum ensures that the artworks are being lit in the most natural way, whether it’s on a sunny day or at night. From the inside everything is super spacious, it feels immense. Due to its 7 meters high ceilings, white walls and natural light fall, the artworks seem to float in the rooms. Stunning.

It feels like a little present to have this kind of museum with international vibes in my country. Even though it’s a 2 hour drive for me, I can’t wait to visit again when new projects are up on display. A place where I’m on an art adventure, getting inspired by every inch of it. See a little impression down below, and make sure to visit when you’re around ;)

Cozy feet

Although I’m posing with bare arms, it was cold as f*** while taking these pictures. Luckily these PUMA Suede’s kept me warm, especially my feet. The Germans keep serving one heat after another, and know how to survive the winter season in style. Give me stacked soles, cozy uppers, gold accents and I’m a happy person :)))

You can easily wear this pair with your fave track pants, a fancy dress or, like I did, distressed denims to play with the soft/raw contrasts. If its getting too cold just go for some cozy socks and you’re ready to take-over.

Overlays

Fall has arrived (duh), and I’m already struggling to beat the cold. And it’s not even winter yet… Could I just bring my pyjama’s and blanket with me all the time, oh well. Maybe I will. Sometime. *disappears under my blanket again*

Okay, back to reality. I’ve tried to work with layers (what else is new, right? haha), but more visible than ever! The layers now create a whole new shape and silhouette. Paired with my new track pants found on the men’s department (seriously girls, how can you skip that part), I feel super cozy cozy. Perfect outfit to run between all of my daily activities, while keeping warm at the same time. I think I kinda start to like this cold weather…

Broken White expo Design Academy & Van Abbe Museum for Dutch Design Week

Last weekend I was invited to attend the opening of the Broken White exposition for Dutch Design Week 2016. It’s the fourth time the Design Academy Eindhoven and Van Abbe Museum joined their forces.

I enjoyed this exposition as I really felt a connection with the artworks and concept of the Broken White theme (which you can read more about down below). Also the Van Abbe Museum is a place I love to visit to get fresh inspiration, wether its from the exhibitions they have or from the building itself. The clean architecture, white surroundings, natural light fall and strong lines and shapes, they all make me feel at ease.

If you happen to to be at Dutch Design Week between 22-30 October, you should def make a stopover at the Van Abbe. For those who can’t make it – don’t worry – the expo is still open to visit until November 6th.

About Broken White

“The blue tap is cold, the red one hot. Orange invokes feelings of excitement. And yellow draws attention to shop windows. Everybody relates to colours, often even emotionally, but how this works no one knows. This instills chromo-phobia in designers: the fear of colours which is suppressed by rules, fashion and style.

The digital revolution has changed everything. For centuries colour was thought of in terms of light falling onto an object and being reflected to a greater or lesser extent. Total reflection results in white, absolute absorption in black. But the screens that are ever present nowadays aren’t objects reflecting light. They radiate light themselves. The source of colour has changed and with it its appearance.

During his teaching career at the Design Academy Eindhoven artist Mathieu Meijers developed a concept that enables us to recalibrate our understanding of colour. The artworks and design objects in Broken White embody this.”

Adjust + Adapt

Adjust and adapt, exactly what comes to mind after traveling through Bali last month. I will share more about this amazing trip later – with a travel guide included :) – but first I have to adjust & adapt to the normal life again (read: no more mind-blowing sunsets, 24/7 tasty foods and no more refreshing swimming sessions in the sea / pool haha).

Time to take of my backpack and go for a simple on-the-run model, which is this cute Swivel pouch from London based Alfie Douglas. Perfect for an office/meeting/event kinda day as the bag adapts to your needs. You can convert the leather straps to a shoulder/crossbody look or you can wear the pouch around the waist as a bumbag/fannypack. Big enough for your most important necessities and small enough to blend in with your look and run away with it. And last but not least, if you look very closely you will notice my initials as a monogram in the corner of the bag. Personal touches are the best <3

Concrete matters

Talking about concrete matters, as my new adidas Gazelle’s immediately reminded me of this specific material. They are just as timeless, solid and clean so that’s why I’m dedicating this full look to the compact grey sea, concrete.

I’ve paired it up with this grey ribbed culotte, trousers I could almost live in… It’s so comfy and fits with everything. Love how they create a bit of a slouchy look with a right amount of chicness. I bought it 3 sizes up though creating the perfect oversized fit. A grey top and my Sun Buddies complete this solid grey look, ending up by totally blending in with the environment.

Borrowed from the boys

Taking the best from both worlds, I love to shop on menswear departments (as you might already found out). And when I can (and he doesn’t notice), I grab some from my boyfriend’s wardrobe as well. This time I’ve managed to get my hands on his new Sandro cap. Kinda jaleous, it’s the perfect white cap and even on sale. Together with my new XL tee that was left in a little dark corner, this is the perfect answer for a ‘borrowed from the boys’ kinda day.

This pink makes you blush

Here I am, wearing something totally different than the usual white, grey or black ensembles. And to be honest, I’m really feeling this pink muted tone. So I decided to go full out with it and created a head to too (well, almost) look. As I don’t own sneakers in the same tone – yet – I paired it up with one of my everyday beaters from this moment: the white creepers from Rihanna’s PUMA collection.

So this is a really comfy look for me. The pants are wide legged and made from a really soft denim fabric. I bought the tee two sizes bigger as I’m a big fan of oversized silhouettes (duh). You can chuck it in, or just leave it hangin’ for a slouchy vibe.
